Tax season, it sneaks up on you. For several years our Main Library has been providing print tax forms and instruction booklets courtesy of the IRS and the State of California. Guaranteed every January we start receiving calls asking for tax forms and we have learned we’re one of the only places for miles that still carry them. Sadly, this year the IRS has drastically cut down on the print materials they are sending us. We will only be receiving IRS forms; all instruction booklets will need to be retrieved online. The booklets are pretty lengthy and can be costly to print out. As a remedy we have printed out the most used instruction booklet and have it available at our reference desk for people to look at and use within the library if needed. Don’t forget you can also use our public computers and visit the IRS website to print forms/instructions as needed at fifteen cents per printed page.
Forms we have as of January 28, 2015
State Tax Forms: CA 540 EZ- English, CA 540 EZ- Español, CA 540 NR
IRS forms: expected delivery in 7-15 days of 1040 A, 1040 EZ, Publication 17 (for reference use)
Feel free to call us at 951-368-0368 to make sure the forms you need are available.
Aside from providing print tax forms, we also strive to offer tax assistance through partnerships and programming. Here are some of the upcoming tax programs we are offering.
Free Tax Assistance
Every Monday starting March 2, 2015 through April 13, 2015 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. (Riverside)
Tax assistance will be available on a first come, first served basis for low to moderate income individuals with preference to seniors. Tax assistance is provided by IRS certified AARP-TCE volunteers. Tax returns are prepared from information supplied by the taxpayer. When the return is signed, the taxpayer assumes all responsibility for the contents. If you are unable to attend our tax assistance, view a list of other locations with similar tax assistance programs offered by the Community Action Partnership.
Free Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic
Monday March 30, 10 a.m. – Noon (Indio)
This workshop will provide information to taxpayers who have problems or disputes with the IRS. We will also seek to help taxpayers who do not have legal representation and who cannot afford to pay for tax controversy assistance.
