Did you know that the Riverside County Law Library (“RCLL”) regularly schedules programs for both attorneys and non-attorneys?  Sure, we do.

For non-attorneys, our Legal Research 101 programs are taught the second Tuesday of every month from 7:00pm – 9:00pm.  Designed for people who know little to nothing about all things legal (or how to do legal research), attendees will learn how to use both print and online resources, how to find and use legal forms and websites, and how to conduct a California legislative intent search (yes, you can do it and no, it is not hard at all).  Each class is $5 and includes all materials and parking.

For attorneys, we are gearing up our 2017 MCLE season.  For those who do not know, MCLE stands for Minimum Continuing Legal Education.  Attorneys who practice law in California must take 25 hours of MCLE every three years.  12.5 of those hours can be self-study (by listening to pre-recorded programs like what we offer attorneys here at the RCLL).  The other 12.5 hours must be at live programs (like what the RCLL provides attorneys every year).  

Our first MCLE program is scheduled for September 13 from 12-1:00pm and features Christian Bogh who will present “Dealing with Depression in the Legal Profession.”  In addition to lunch, attendees will receive 1-hour of MCLE credit with a Competency emphasis.  Those wishing to attend this program can sign-up online at bit.ly/2rvFzl9.

The second program on October 11 from 12-1:00pm will be presented by Brian T. Stuart who is speaking on “The Ethical use of Declarations.”  Attendees will receive lunch and one-hour of MCLE credit with an Ethics emphasis.

On November 8 from 12-1:00pm, both Howard Franco and David E. Barker will jointly speak on “Risk Management for the Small Firm Practitioner.”  Attendees will be treated to lunch and one (1) of MCLE credit with an Ethics emphasis.

Finally, on December 4, 11, 18 from 6-9:00pm, attorneys can earn up to nine (9) units of general MCLE credit by attending “Legal Research 102: for those who have been there and done that (but forgot how).”  Taught by our own Research & Instructional Services Librarian, Bret Christensen, this is an excellent opportunity to network with legal professionals from around the county.  Each evening, attendees will be greeted with a sumptuous dinner and will learn how to use both primary and secondary print authorities as well as how to use all online resources available at the RCLL including WestlawNext, Lexis Advanced, CEB OnLaw, HeinOnline, and many, many others.
